1965-66 Centreville Regional High School Boys Basketball Team
Inducted: 2025
The 1965-66 Centreville Regional High School Cougars Boys Basketball Team was the product of a dedicated, community-supported basketball tradition in Centreville. Their undefeated 23-0 season was part of an incredible 64-1 record against all competition over three full seasons. The team set an NBIAA scoring record of 131 points in a game and averaged 87 points per league game compared to their opponents’ 37. Their Class M provincial championship win was the second consecutive victory over a larger Class L school, and the school’s fifth provincial title in six years.
The outstanding performance of this team, along with the success of CRHS teams over a seven-year span, resulted in six provincial titles. This passion for basketball was clearly evident in March 1966, when more than 250 loyal fans turned out in McAdam to cheer on their Cougars to a 41-36 provincial championship win over Rothesay.
The tradition of producing hardworking, highly competitive, championship teams began in the 1930s with the opening of a small gymnasium in the attic of the Centreville Superior School. The game continued to grow with the construction of the new regional high school in 1951, the establishment of CNHS in 1977, and the many community teams that still carry on the legacy today. The success of these teams has always been sustained by strong community support.
Gymnasiums have long been gathering places where family, friends, and neighbours come together to cheer, visit, and renew connections.
The 1965-66 CRHS Cougars Boys Basketball Team proudly represents the spirit and pride instilled in the citizens of Centreville and surrounding areas through the game of basketball.
