LCol Erin Savage, CD, MD

Erin was born in Lakeville and started her basketball career at Centreville Intermediate School, continuing at Carleton North High School, UNB and Dalhousie University. She was part of the Basketball NB U19 competing in a National Tournament in 1992 and Canada Games in 1993 finishing 5th. She also was on the Team Representing NB at the 1997 Francophone Games in Madagascar, Africa, winning a Bronze medal.
Upon graduation from UNB in 1996, Erin was accepted to Dalhousie School of Medicine and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1998. Erin was deployed to Haiti in 2004 and Afghanistan in 2007, where she earned a Chief of Defense Staff Commendation for her outstanding work as the senior physician and leader of Battle Group’s medical company.
LCol Savage was a devout and tireless advocate for the CAF medical technicians, ensuring they arrived on the battlefield with the skills and equipment they needed to save the lives of soldiers in their care. Her work in this area, including published research, has garnered international attention, which continues to influence the advancement of battlefield medicine.
Unfortunately, Erin lost her battle with breast cancer in November of 2014. Her former teammates at UNB have saluted her contributions by establishing the LCol Erin Savage Scholarship and the CAF honored her work and dedication by naming the new medical hospital facility at CFB Petawawa the “Erin Savage, CD, MD Building” in her honor.
