Public Notice: Community Survey – Climate Change Adaptation Planning
The District of Carleton North is developing a Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCAP) to help guide community decisions, activities, and infrastructure to reduce potential harm from actual or expected climate conditions in the future.
Residents and business owners are invited to fill out a brief survey to learn about this initiative, share local knowledge, and help us build a more resilient future for the District of Carleton North.
WHAT IS A CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION PLAN?
Adaptation is the process of adjusting our decisions, activities, and infrastructure to moderate harm from actual or expected climate conditions. A CCAP is a strategic document that:
✅ Identifies and prioritizes our community’s most significant climate vulnerabilities, such as, flooding, erosion, or extreme heat.
✅ Outlines specific adaptation measures to reduce risks to our built and natural environments.
✅ Integrates climate resilience into our long-term municipal planning and capital investments.
WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT FOR THE DISTRICT OF CARLETON NORTH?
New Brunswick is already experiencing more extreme weather events as a result of a changing climate. Enhancing the community’s resilience helps minimize future damages and costs related to climate change impacts. By planning now, we can:

✅ Protect public health and safety, particularly for our most vulnerable residents.
✅ Make sound infrastructure investments that account for future climate projections

EXPERT LEADERSHIP
We have engaged professionals with expertise in risk assessment and adaptation planning to lead the process.
VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT
Climate datasets and local maps are being used to identify which areas and infrastructure are most at risk.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
The open houses are a vital step for gathering local knowledge and ensuring diverse perspectives.
FORMAL ADOPTION
Once the report is complete, Council will adopt the plan to track and implement adaptation actions.
