Randoph “Bun” Veysey

Bun Veysey, an outstanding athlete well known throughout the province, moved with his family to Florenceville in 1968 to become the first Director of Recreation. Bun was tasked to manage the recently constructed arena and create a recreation program for Northern Carleton County. Bun proceeded to increase the facilities with the building of a swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds & five baseball diamonds. In his off-work hours, he coached the majority of Florenceville hockey & baseball teams, as well as the All-Star Teams that represented the Northern Carleton region in provincial play-offs. Bun took great pride in seeing the youth of the area achieve a high level of success in their chosen sport.
Several of the teams from the region coached by Bun went on to Provincial & Atlantic championships in the 1970’s. Bun was selected to manage the New Brunswick base-ball team at the 1973 Canada Games. At the 1985 Canada Games Bun was on the Mission Staff representing New Brunswick.
In the 1980’s and 90’s Bun was employed by the N.B. Dept of Youth, Recreation & Cultural Resources, assisting recreation departments throughout Carleton, Victoria & York counties.
Bun’s leadership embodied moral character, competitive spirit, and a team 1st approach while helping to lay the foundation of recreation and active living in the Northern Carleton region.
